TranceSynthVania3 Oct 2003, 02:52 Hey! I was wondering if anyone knew about some really good MP3 encoders. It has to be able to convert to 192kbps, which is what I use on mp3.com without too much crap going on at the higher frequencies. And for gods sake, not make those "BLOP" sounds some of the cheaper ones make sometimes. Any tips would be appreciated!Trancefuzion3 Oct 2003, 07:44 TranceSynthVania wrote: Hey! Can't help you much there but the "blop" is not caused by the encoder. It's caused by your computer when you're running other tasks on the CPU which causes that "blop".Mel David3 Oct 2003, 08:59 Find one that uses the Frauenhofer codec. I use the iTunes mp3 encoder which is based on the Frauenhofer codec. Sound quality is awesome to say the least. :)
Hey do you sell much CDs at MP3.COM? I've just about abandoned that site due to it's 3 song limit and because nobody was buying my music. Do people actually purchase MP3 CDs? Sorry, off-topic. Carry on.TranceSynthVania3 Oct 2003, 12:16 Please don't tempt me anymore to get a Mac :P
Yes, people actually buy cd's. I don't sell many tho.. ask t[]c how many they sell.. I think they sell quite a lot...
But mp3.com really suck if you don't have the cash to pay them. I mean, 3 songs? That's not even worth it.DjDaed3 Oct 2003, 17:03 I use Music Match Jukebox to convert all of my files to 192kbps, seems to work ok. Its kind of fast too. As for MP3.com, they are just too limited now, you have to pay to have more than three tracks up at once.TranceSynthVania3 Oct 2003, 21:06 I currently use MusicMatch Jukebox too to convert to 192, but I was wondering if there is any better...Trancefuzion3 Oct 2003, 21:55 I dont know. I use dBpowerAMP Music Converter. Its a nice nifty small app which features volume normalization and such. Quite nice.Guest6 Oct 2003, 15:53 I use I use Music Match Jukebox as well and it is fast, it also lets you do some cool things to the files. and it even rips unripable cd( well it has from me, I don't know about any one else)

^ that was me, i'm so use to auto long in, i for get to do it when i'm not at home, lol :huh:David McGowan6 Oct 2003, 19:05 I liike to use soundforge , it never seams to add any blips or blops, and you can encode anywhere from 64kilobits, to 320 kilobits. plus i use it for other stuff so its just handy that way.
Davidephex6 Oct 2003, 23:55 search google for lame, its console based so you will need a front end. i use razorlame. as far as quality its the best out there, but if you really want quality you should check out ogg vorbis. its a new codec thats sounds WAY better than mp3, even low bitrates such as 64kbps sound better than mp3 at 128kbps or even higher B). i usually encode at 110kbps though. the only problem is not many people know what it is and there is only one hardware player currently, and not all software supports it <_<TranceSynthVania7 Oct 2003, 21:21 Yeah, isn't that the filetype that change bitrate during the song after how much it needs? I've seen that.. I have some ogg tracks on my computer I think. too bad you can't upload them to mp3.com...
and I think the file size is quite big too.Trancefuzion7 Oct 2003, 21:24 TranceSynthVania wrote: Yeah, isn't that the filetype that change bitrate during the song after how much it needs? I've seen that.. I have some ogg tracks on my computer I think. too bad you can't upload them to mp3.com...

You're thinking of variable bitrate mp3s.
OGG Vorbis is completely different and it does take up less space. That's why its becoming more popular. ;)TranceSynthVania7 Oct 2003, 21:27 that's really weird when the file extension said ".ogg"
A friend of mine explained it to me and told me that this was Ogg Vorbis.
And I saw that the bitrate was going up and down.Trancefuzion7 Oct 2003, 21:34 TranceSynthVania wrote: that's really weird when the file extension said ".ogg"

Well I haven't seen a variable bitrate OGG but I could be wrong. :unsure:ephex8 Oct 2003, 02:48 ALL ogg's are variable bit rate, it is part of the specification. i guess its possible to force the encoder to encode at a steady bitrate, but vbr is better [and the default] so there isn't a point :P
but yes filesizes are smaller or larger depending how you look at it. if you set the Q to 4 [128kbps] then the filesize will be slightly higher than a 128kbps mp3 because during more complex parts of the song it will boost up the bitrate [though if it is a simple part it will cut back the bitrate, so you only use what you need]. but considering how much better ogg sounds at lower bitrates than mp3, you can just cut back the bitrate.Trancefuzion8 Oct 2003, 02:49 ephex wrote: ALL ogg's are variable bit rate, it is part of the specification. i guess its possible to force the encoder to encode at a steady bitrate, but vbr is better [and the default] so there isn't a point :P

Ahh I see. Thanks for clearing it up. :)Alle14 Oct 2003, 03:30 CDex get my vote! It uses an awesome codec & is so far the best I've seen! Get it via www.download.com
