BALLISTIC SOLUTION2 Oct 2003, 12:28 i know that 20Hz-20kHz is the range of human hearing, so what would be a good range for monitors? i've rarely seen any (in my price range) that go below 35Hz. I used to do home theatres for people & i can get normal speakers that can go much lower for less $. so, advantages/disadvantages...advice, experience?
maybe i should move next door to Kristian & rent time on his haflers [image]TranceSynthVania2 Oct 2003, 14:48 hehe, the Hafler TRM-8 is 45Hz-21Khz, but if you add a Hafler TRM10/12 subwoofer, you have a pretty complete studio setup, but then again, they are really expensive :Pephex7 Oct 2003, 19:49 Well, I have the Behringer Truth's and they go from 50Hz to 21KHz. Sure you can hear lower frequencies than that but consider this: those lower frequencies can be dangerous to play with anyway, unless you are cutting them. Maybe studio monitors and real speakers can handle them, but hi-fi gear and even PA systems can literally have the cones flipped inside out. If you really want those low frequencies, I think I remember the Event TR5 or TR8 being able to go to the low 40s or 30s, but I'm not positive.
Also keep in mind that some of that hi-fi gear like subwoofers and speakers that boast a low frequency response may not even be close to accurate; sometimes they only pump out low frequency thumps that have no intelligible frequency and get away with it cuz some people are just happy to have the room shake. :P
Hope that helpsTranceSynthVania7 Oct 2003, 21:25 well, it is really important to adjust the subwoofer perfectly at both dB and Hz. The sub should only deal with the really low frequencies that the monitors can't handle! It's not too wise to turn the frequency on the sub up to 130 Hz to make the kick louder.BALLISTIC SOLUTION14 Oct 2003, 03:37 music talk, freq range s monitors, meLithius28 Oct 2003, 06:04 If you can't afford monitors, good headphones will work just as good! Check out Sony, Koss, and Sienheiser for some nice ones. Sienheiser is by far the most expensive of them all, but it's worth looking into ... :D The Good Guys usually have a pretty impressive headphone demo, you should go to them to decide.
