    Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone could help me out in installing some new encoders (mp3, ogg, etc etc) on my computer. I usually use CDex 1.51 to rip my CDs and convert files from WAV, but the mp3 encoder that is listed there is LAME 1.30 version 3.92 ... it's OLD!!! Also, the OGG Vorbis encoder listed doesn't say any version number... so I have no idea how old it is.

I'm wondering how I can get the new version of LAME (3.96) to be used by CDex.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

first off i wouldn't recommend mp3 unless your hardware player isn't compatable with ogg. also, exactaudiocopy is the best ripping software, grab that at www.exactaudiocopy.de

for the ogg encoder, check vorbis.com, get the vorbis console tools [eac will use them in the background]. then just configure eac to use vorbis encoder and point it to oggenc in wherever you put the vorbis tools.

if you have to use mp3, don't use lame. it really destroyes the upper frequencies and only sounds good >192kbps. if you can try to find the fraunhoffer [sp?] encoder [i know musicmatch uses that encoder... too bad musicmatch sucks :P]

have fun, hope that helps ;)

btw, if you want to convert from wav to ogg, there is a tool called oggdropxpd, just drop the wav into the box and you get an ogg... ;)
