I'm not much into styles. I probably couldn't tell one from the other. Someone would have to point me to a prime example of each style in order for me to really know the difference. I like things to be melodic, but fast. I like what I call 'dark music' that is things that sound 'heavy'. Some examples are the some of the songs from Mortal Kombat like the Mortal Kombat theme as well as Unlearn, Control, and Burn. I like some of the 2 Unlimited stuff (techno) because some of it has the same sound. I like trance, probably some from all types, over techno because of the lack of structured lyrics, though there is a lot of techno I like as well. Lack of words in a song tend to allow my imagination to soar when I am listening to music.

I have found that I like a whole lot of the music the artists that frequent this forum put out (thanks guys for the freebees!). I have downloaded gobs and gobs of it and most of it ranks as among my favorite music. The problem is there is so much of it I have yet to listen to it all! At one time, not to long ago, I was concerned that i would never have much trance/techno music to listen to. But thanks to t[]c and the rest of you (as well as Kazaa) I have more than I think I can ever listen to! So keep up the good work guys and I'll keep listening!

I like tc's harder tracks 'cause IMO it's them who sound most pro and fully made and got the heart into it...

Gotta agree with LoneMan, I really can't tell them apart either, but I would listen to a track labeled Hard Trance before Melodic. I like the drum beats that run throughout the tracks. I compare it to the heart beat of the music. It's what gives it life and feeling.

I used to work with Special Olympics athletes and whenever we went to a dance you would always find a group standing in front of the speakers. Some of the volunteers thought they had hearing problems, but that's where the beat can be felt the best; where it becomes a physical experience, and that's what they were looking for. They weren't there to dance to the music, but to feel the music.

I feel the same way about Trance music, but don't think I'd go stand in front of the speakers. With the bass turned up, the compression could probably stop a heart.

IMHO it doesn't matter the style, it's the melody that counts. If it makes you "shiver" you don't care if it's Hard Trance or Melodic Trance ! ! !

    Tracks I like:

Midway - Monkey forest (original mix)
Three drives - Carrera 2 (NU NRG remix)
    Digital pressure - Aftershokk
    Analoge sound - Stupid
DJ Tiesto - In my memory (V-One remix)

well since im kinda a newbie to this, i have to agree with olddude and oneloneman, cant tell the apart ;-) butta, melodic sounds fine to me, it really does.... i'm not much of a hardcore guy.... tho sometimes it n with real, big, fat bass..... don't u think

I myself started out as a Melodic freak, in a manner of speaking. But as I got more into it, I started listening to the harder stuff. Now, I listen to all of it, but prefer both mixed in together.

I like the hard tracks because they do have a lot of feeling in them and certainly are a lot of fun to dance to. I like the melodic tracks too, because they provide me with a much more emotional experience.
I would rather feel the music, like you said, than dance to it, though the two can be combined to some extent (enter liquid dancing). :cheesburger:
Peak Time gives me chills and makes me feel happy, Touch the Lights makes me feel almost melancholy, and Sunrise and Hyperdrive make me feel energetic and excited. They have a much more emotional impact on me than Deep Minded or High Society do (great tracks though). And if I'm in the right mood A Concept of Love in Harmony is just trippy.
I think a balance is necessary to fully appreciate both kinds. And if you want to hear good goa tance, check out Astral Projection :alien: .

I have to go with melodic. My favorite tracks by T[]C are Progression, Peak Time, Euphoria, and Sunrise - the most melodic of the works. In yet, they contain enough rythmic drive to capture the soul.

Aura and Club82 have some nice melodic tracks, but they don't have the same drive or appeal as t[]c :D.

I agree, Peak Time is amazing and Sunrise is a great track, but it's too short :P. Well, they're all great; that's just me :P.

Then you should be happy to know we've made a 2004 remix of Sunrise that will be released on a 12" in September :)

Well this is my first post here.
I think you guys forgot to add 'progressive'. Like some other people, I have difficulty distinguishing the types of music. Hard would be a track like "High Society", melodic "Touch the Lights", and progressive "Phazed Reality".
(Yes I really like the slightly older tracks).
So I would really have to go for the (what I think are) progressive tracks, they are really awesome.
Correct me if I mixed up the styles .
