like what synthesizer, sampler and software, nothing to expensive. (Lets say newbie gear)

What I've been checking atm is the Yamaha cs1x and cs2x synthesizers and the Korg Electribe S. dunno if this is a good start gear so all tips is appreciated.

what you wanna look into are:

    audio interface
    synth or midi controller
modules (if you get a midi controller)
    mixer
    computer with speed and space.
    software
    monitors

thats what i could think of off the top of my head.

    -audio interface:
look into stuff from M-audio to Motu.
    what i have is a M-audio Studiophile 2496

    -synth
synths usually depends on what kind of sounds your interested in having. synths vary in wide ranges. things you should keep in mind when your looking into synths are, what genre am i going to be working with? how are the control parameters? any special features? etc etc. i would rank it into a roster of something like this:

--Work Station, for all genres. more money
--General Synthesizers. now this is hard, i work with all the genres and i like a shit load of synths. some major companies that i like are: Clavia, Novation, Roland, Korg and E-Mu.

-midi controllers are usually used when you have a software you want to control, or you want synth modules to control. mid controllers are the most affordable equiptment to get in a project studio. also midi controllers tend to lack in "feel" and "touch". one controller i would look into are novations Remote 25, M-audio's keystation pro 88, studiologic SL990XP, or go much more affordable with Evolution stuff.

-modules and rack version of synths are all keyless. they rely on having an external midi control most of the time. unless its something like the Korg EMX when you already have controller interfaces and yada yada...

-mixer...im begining to get tired in typeing;P so ill be breif. you plug your external hardware like your synth, guitar, etc. in here to deliver the sound to your audio interface to your comp.

-computer. if yoru looking for something like a DAW system, you are looking for Noiseless, Stablization, Speed, Space, and Security. if you have them, you have a a kick ass DAW system. btw DAW means Digital Audio Workstation.

-software and hardware are becomming a cliche of music creation arguments. software are cool in my opinion, and as with hardware. but having a hardware benefits you from making music on the go, with speed and percision. here are some good software:

Propellerheads Reason 2.5 (im using this right now, excellent prog)
Steinberg Cubase SE,SL,SX (i dont know what the differecne is, but i have SE that i've gotten from the "Studio Case", still not opened, longs story...and no im not selling it.)
    Ableton Live (used it once)
    Digidesign Pro-tools (used it once)

thats all i can think of right now:P

    and last but not lease...

-monitors. if your interested in mastering, you want the best monitors there is..somgthing like the Genelics. right now, im using cheap ass computer speakers, but i have the Event TR6's laying in the box catching dust...again a long story:(.

    have fun~

    Here is my current setup:

    Hardware:

Computer [AMD 2100+ 512MB RAM, 160GB SATA hard drive, soon to be upgraded to a better cpu.. maybe?]
    M-Audio Audiophile 2496 [awesome!]
Plextor CD burner [premium no less, cost me $100 but extremely worth it.. 1GB data cd anyone?? anyway this is relevant cuz it burns the audio more accuratly :P]
    Evolution MK225C Midi keyboard

    Software:

    Cubase SX 2
    Reason 2.5
    FL Studio 4.5.2
    plugins...

What you want to get first is a soundcard [for low latency!], midi keyboard, and Reason 2.5. Then grow as you can afford it. You could get FL Studio instead of Reason, both are very capable. Just don't expect to make good sounds with the included samples/plugins!! Except the Sytrus. This way is perhaps more flexable, you can add plugins as you can afford them...

    ahh thanks :)
made 1 track with reason 2.5, tho it doesn't sound that well.
and atm im trying to figure out the FL studio so much I need to keep in check :)

If your looking for something that will create a banging track with know knowledge work or effort, you wont really find it. Getting good at producing music takes time, dedication, creativity, lots and lots of "throw aways", research, techniques, and finnaly money.

People diss all over the place about how reason cant sound good , or not pro , but in reality its just not true. its because they dont know how to use it. ever heard of airbase , guess what he uses?

basically your going to have to realize your tracks are gunna suck for a while , every song you you make your skills will improve.

And David McGowan came with the best and shortest explanation i've ever heard! Really good :)

And i also agree, the limit is in your head, not the application. Remember that.
