Zxian10 Mar 2004, 22:58 Hey everyone,
I remember from the broadcast e-mail that Alle sent when Riding Mary-Jane (hehe, that's such a funny title :P) was frist released that Mary-Jane is actually a skiing/snowboarding mountain in Colorado.
I'm originally from Vancouver, BC, Canada, right next door to the well known ski resort Whistler/Blackcomb. Right now I'm in Ontario, about 4000 km away, so I haven't been able to take advantage of the great snow that they've been having this year. Since I've never been to Mary-Jane, the song reminds me of a sunny day on 7th Heaven, the side of Blackcomb that faces the sun in the afternoon. On a good day, it feels like you're riding/skiing on top of the clouds and that everything is floating around you... man I miss that...
Anyone else have any skiing/riding memories that come up when they listen to the song?
Here's a picture of the view from 7th Heaven...*sniff*Kingster11 Mar 2004, 05:49 Ahhh... The Whistler/Blackcomb area is incredible. Great pic.
I grew up in Maine, and spent a lot of time at a resort called Sugarloaf. I used to ski a bump run called "Cuffer"... And listened to a lot of stuff like New Order, Ministry, and Yello (it was the mid 80's). Ministry's "Halloween" sticks out in my mind for pounding the bumps.
The thing that pops into my head about that run now, while listening to Riding MJ is that at the top of the run, there were a lot of moguls, then cleaned up as a few trails crossed at the midpoint, then went back to bumps. This tune would be perfect for riding that run.
Fun stuff. Thanks for jogging the brain, Zxian.DjDaed12 Mar 2004, 04:34 Nice pic, its so beautiful.
Kingster: Where at in Maine. I am also from Maine, (Originally). It appears to me that there is quite a fan base in Maine. Maybe TC should go there.David McGowan13 Mar 2004, 01:41 Ahh riding stories,
My best was probably about two weeks ago, we just had some major storms in California, and my dad and i ran up to mammoth mountain, (http://www.mammothmountain.com/) It had just snowed about a foot the night before, and we got there right as the lifts open, after afew warm up runs, we hit the far side, hadent been groomed, and hardly any other skiers , it was incredible, fresh dry powder, you just glided over, as long as you leaned back and kept your nose up. it was great.
David
