As you all know the P2P applications are CONSTANTLY changing and it seems that KaZaA is the latest one to go down the drain. The RIAA is now tracking IP addresses and filing lawsuits against KaZaA users.

So what are the alternatives? I'm here to tell you what they are and where you can get them.

    iMesh - http://www.imesh.com/
Runs off the iMesh and KaZaA networks. HEAVY ads and spyware and viruses. I HIGHLY recommend NOT installing this software because the spyware and adware is a serious pain in the butt to get out. Plus its not the best option for P2P right now. If you HAVE installed iMesh before I HIGHLY recommend getting a program like SpySweeper to remove the spyware and adware.

    eMule - http://emuleplus.sourceforge.net/
Downloads the file in chuncks based on availablility. Not too dependable and horribly slow - even on broadband connections. Used mostly for downloading of movies. Also known as eDonkey.

    Direct Connect - http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/
Pretty much great for anything. No spyware. Some ads. To get files you connect to "hubs" with other users. The hub manages searching, etc. The program however DOES require lots of sharing. The more you share, the more hubs you can get onto. This is how Direct Connect thrives and prevents leeching. Direct Connect is great if you have lots to share.

    Soulseek - http://www.slsknet.org/
Excellent fast P2P network. TONS of trance available on there including the hard to find songs. Definitely a must have. Its not much to look at but man this software is a gem. It features a buddy list where you can chat with your friends and browse their shared files. It also has chatrooms for talks about certain genres. If you cant find something on there with the search, the chatrooms are the next place to go. My program of choice.

    BitTorrent - http://btplusplus.sourceforge.net/
BitTorrent works much similar to eDonkey in that it downloads your files in chunks. However the spectrum of whats available is much broader. New BitTorrent trackers (the sites you have to go to to start the downloads) are popping up almost daily. You can find everything you want, didn't know you wanted, and don't want on there. Full software, music albums, movies, games, you name it. It's there. The download speeds are pretty decent on a broadband connection, depending on how many users have that file. Downloads are also very stable and dependable. Currently by far THE BEST site for BitTorrent torrents is http://www.suprnova.org/ Take a look. Trust me you won't regret it. This is also my program of choice.

So now you've been informed. What do you think? What are you using now (see poll above)?

Just thought this could be an interesting topic here. :rollwink:

Don't forget Kazaa lite! That is a hacked version of kazaa which is NOT spyware and you cannot be tracked when using it.

I must say, SoulSeek isn't exactly eye candy but it works well. I only use p2p software to look for electronic music anyway.

True. I've used that, but you're STILL in danger of the RIAA and there's STILL ads.

umm no there are not ads
but YES you are still very much at risk, if you guys didnt know the RIAA is even USING Kazaa lite to find the people they are sueing. The ironic part is Kazaa is suing the RIAA for using Kazaa lite... I think i read something about it on cnn.com but im not sure.
