I was just curious to see what people thought about them. Many designers argue that you're only a true web designer if you dont use any editors and just stick to notepad or other plain text programs.

I'd have to say that out of all the programs on the market, Macromedia Dreamweaver is the best. It increases productivity without sticking all kinds of junk code in your work.

Well, FrontPage adds as much junk html as possible, and I love it

hehe, I only use it because I know how it works... I always get rid of the crap in the html editor..

You should try the free trial version of Dreamweaver at http://www.macromedia.com. You might like it. ;)

I agree Dreamweaver is the best! its clear, simple but yet still retains the ability of more complicated designs. =) Frontpage works great but is lacking in many areas :)

well, I had Dreamweaver for a long time actually, and I still have it.. Dreamweaver MX or something... it's probably 10 times better than FrontPage, but that doesn't help when I don't understand a

I've got Dreamweaver MX and Flash MX

I never use Dreamweaver though. I only use it when I'm desperate.

Hand coder all the way!!! :D

IMO Frontpage is a load of crap. I boycott microsh*t products wherever possible but FP honestly sucks.

Anyway Dreamweaver is definitly heaven! :D I have the demo and loved it while it worked, but I really cant afford it [If I could I would get Dreamweaver MX, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and a ton of fonts from fonts.com and be set, but with everything I need for my studio and to get my computer fixed that isn't gonna happen...] Plus the only real kick I get out of it, besides the pretty interface and syntax highlighting, is its ability to change references in all the documents very easily [such as when renaming a CSS stylesheet or an html page]. This can be a neccesity if you are working on a very large site, but fortunatly I'm not ;)

So yeah, im stuck using notepad but it's not that bad :)
If only I had linux installed I could really do some damage ;). Too bad my 'server' is umm... 'broken' :P

TSV: There are plenty of good html/xhtml and css resources out there. Just do a google search. Personally w3schools.com has some very good references and the tutorials are very thorough. Just grab a text editor and spend a day learning things, thats all you'll need ;)

i never tried dreamweaver, even though i could get it off kazaa lite...i liked frontpage (sorry, it's what i grew up on lmao ). how much different from frontpage is dreamweaver? same setup and all? btw, i have alot of corel products & hate adobe...just me, you can make kickass grafix w/both.... B) i find corel easier to use....oh well.... :D

I agree that it's about what you've grown up on too. As long as you can create the same quality graphics and webpages then thats all that matters. But, I do promise you if you used Photoshop and Dreamweaver and learned the basics of each, you won't go back to Corel or Frontpage.

I can't really explain everything that dreamweaver does because it does so much. One great thing that is doesn't do is stick a load of crap code in your HTML. Download the trial version and see for yourself, Ballistic. No need to use Kazaa.

I prefer straight up coding into notepad, it makes me feel like I acutally did something, almost like a work of art.

I use Adobe Photoshop and Frontpage.. I like working with tables in frontpage. it's so easy, but when I'm making a page, I usually use only the html mode.

True. But if you're satisfied with your HTML coding abilities then using an editor shouldn't make you feel like you're not a true webmaster. Editors increase your production and make managing websites very easy.

I bought the Macromedia Web Design package a few years ago for my Mac. It cost a bundle! :( I got Dreamweaver, Flash, & Fireworks in the package for about a grand. Now I have the MX versions + Freehand but I just downloaded them from somewhere, hehe.
I'm still trying to get to grips with using them but I've already gleamed that Dreamweaver is very powerful and quite simple to use. And Fireworks is mad fun for making animated avatars, etc. :P

    That is true.

Even though I suck @ HTML coding I'll still beat most notpad hardcoders out there...

    I'm using

    Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 - all that non-understandable code-jibberish
Macromedia Fireworks MX 2004 - Optimizing images
Macromedia Flash MX 2004 - Still very new @ Flash though it's my tool...
Adobe Photoshop 7 - Graphic design

Used to use Frontpage (years ago), though it requires frontpage extensions for the server to understand the html code so that instantly rules out this software in my book.

I'd have to say that I use Notepad, Photoshop, GoLive, and Dreamweaver.

I write the HTML in Notepad, Graphics in PShop, CSS in GoLive, and Shockwave/Flash in Dreamweaver.
