Before Trance

OldDude30 Nov 2003, 01:02 I was looking through some of the old records I've got and came across two albums by Dick Hyman. The oldest is "Electric Eclectic" and the other is "The Age of Electronicus". Both were done back in the late 60s on a Moog Synthesizer. What a monster machine it was. It looks like the telephone switchboard from Hell, lots of plugs, cables and vacuum tubes. I found two webpages that show the album covers if anyone is interested seeing what they looked like.

The "Age of Electonicus has photos of the Moog on the album cover and a sample of one of the tracks.
This was the beginning of the music we all know and love called Trance.
Very Groovy, man

Check out his setup:

Oh yeah and an audio clip from Tomita's version of Mars from Holst's piece "The Planets" is attached.
Sorry its such a low qual. mp3 but hey i had to fit a good 2 minutes under 500k lol

Oh yeah and this belongs in the Music Talk section... ;)
*moves topic*OldDude30 Nov 2003, 02:14 First let me say thanks for putting this in the right place. Sometimes I'm not sure just what goes where. Comes with old age, I guess ;)
Checked out Tomita's site. It's hard to imagine using equipment like that. It looks so complicated and primitive, which it was, I imagine. Reminds me of the "computers" that were used in the old sci-fi movies; all blinking lights and a block and a half long.
:devil2: :devil:rave_battle2 Dec 2003, 17:52 I never new that. That pretty awesome. Where did you guys find out about these guys or did you guys just happen to come across them?Trancefuzion2 Dec 2003, 21:46 rave_battle wrote: I never new that. That pretty awesome. My dad has his records... yes... records... that old... That's where I heard of Tomita... ;)OldDude3 Dec 2003, 03:19 Where did you guys find out about these guys or did you guys just happen to come across them?
I bought the two Dick Hyman albums, "Electric Eclectic" and "The Age of Electronicus", when they were new, back in the late 60s. The only problem now is that I don't have anything to play them on anymore. There isn't a turntable in the house, only CD and cassette players. But I'd like to check them out one of these days to see what they sound like after all these years.
