teknodave26 Nov 2003, 06:43 Okay. It has been snowing like crazy in the mountains here in Washington. We are talking several FEET of powder in the past few days. The ski resorts are opening way early this year, in comparison to last year, when they did not open until mid-December. Needless to say, people are going bonkers over the stuff.
Opening day at the resort. The TV crews are heading up there, interviewing people. Enter our heronies, two high school girls. We skipped school today. We wouldn't miss this for the world
Okay. If I am playing hooky, and a reporter has a mic in my face, with the camera rolling in the background, that is the LAST thing I am going to say!!! :excl:BALLISTIC SOLUTION26 Nov 2003, 10:36 heh heh, i got one better... when i was the 1st cav division & we were packing up & getting ready to go to what at that time was about to turn into desert storm 2 (which of course didn't happen & turned into an all expenses paid desert vacation on my 21st birthday...damn, i've got some outstanding luck :madgo: ) the news found out about our plans & sent EVERYONE to fort hood. we were supposed to point the news crews to the public affairs pogues that were everywhere & not talk about what we knew. anyhow, CNN corners this new kid & asked him about how he felt about going to the supposed upcoming war (& every station was broadcasting that we were going to war with iraq again). he then stared into the camera with his mouth agape & HONESTLY stated "war? war?! what the hell is going on?!" . the kid had just got there & thought that everything we were doing was just part of army life. it was the perfect headline- "us goes to war with iraq-troops have no clue"
cheers,
macDjDaed26 Nov 2003, 11:44 I was in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, I didn't like it at all. I got the word last December, by Febuary, we were in Kuwait, March we were in Iraq. I don't know how much everyone knows about Operation Iraqi Freedom, but it was no walk in the park. We didn't have a problem with Sadaams troops, in fact, it was all milita, which made it even harder. Soldiers dressed in civilian clothes. Who knew the people waving to us were part of those militias.teknodave26 Nov 2003, 15:40 As someone that used to be in the media, both print and broadcast, the organizations that I worked for, we would never pull any crap like that. You can get in more trouble than its worth. Yah, you got your scoop, you got your Top Story, but at what cost? That is how and why the media has been getting a bad name over the years.
On my aspect though, I was just thinking, what if these girls' teachers, principal, or their PARENTS saw this story? I think they would be in water hotter than the deserts of Iraq.
*bows*
Thank you both for serving in the military. U guys RAWK. :wub:David McGowan26 Nov 2003, 21:06 For playing hookey ? psh a slap on the wrist.
David :lol:ephex27 Nov 2003, 01:17 What are they gonna do? ground you? give you a detention? Neither?
Yeah that's something I would do, cuz I wouldn't care enough in the first place.
"Look ma, I'm on TV!! B)"OneLoneMan27 Nov 2003, 01:52 If I were the parent of either child they would have reason to fear the consequences of such a stunt! I would ground them for a month, just for a start. :pissed:teknodave27 Nov 2003, 04:05 My parents would probably ground me for six months. Go to school, go to work, come home. They would time me, call to make sure I am where I am supposed to be at that time .... I would have no life.
But I was too much of a goody-two-shoes. Still am. :POneLoneMan27 Nov 2003, 06:05 Nothing wrong with being a goody-two-shoes! The world needs more of us! :DBALLISTIC SOLUTION28 Nov 2003, 12:27 DjDaed wrote: I was in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, I didn't like it at all. go to school, come home. that's my life....my parents don't find grounding me is really effective...... :lol:OldDude28 Nov 2003, 20:14 What are they gonna do? ground you? give you a detention? Neither?
That's one of the problems with kids now. I skipped school back in the fourth grade (yeah, I started early) and of course not knowing any better, went home. Big mistake got my butt whooped there and then was taken back to school and had my mouth washed out with soap for telling a lie to the teacher about why I left. Those were the days, let me tell you, nobody spared the rod or I should say, ruler. Right across the knuckles, man it hurt.
:devil2: Rick :devil:David McGowan28 Nov 2003, 22:04 Diffrent day an age i suppose. I used to ditch school, but i got away with it , and no one was the wiser. i was ablet o keep my grades up , and graduate. Sure when my dad did find out the few times, i got in trouble. Being from a skiing family, if my dad found out i ditched to go skiing, he'd be angry , but would probably understand, my guess he did the same when he was a kid. Its about growing up. We grow up we get jobs. I have an awesome record at work for not being late and not missing days, ill come to work sick untill im at the poin where i literally cant do my job anymore, then i go home. I think ive missed only 1 or 2 days of work this year.

That was another reason as to why I never did anything to piss off my folx, especially my old man. But there were times, however. He and mom used a wooden spoon until he busted it spanking my little bro, and then he started to use one of those "Log Bats," the long flat bat that you have to roll a cylinder up and down without it falling off.
I got smart and tightened my cheeks, but then he just whooped me harder. :(
