Just received this in the mail:

    MP3.com Artist Announcement

CNET Networks, Inc announced today that it has acquired certain assets of MP3.com, Inc.

Please be advised that on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 12:00 PM PST the MP3.com website will no longer be accessible in its current form.

Following a transition period, CNET Networks, Inc. plans to introduce new and enhanced artist services. If you would like to receive email updates on these new services and notification when they are available, as well as an invitation to their special artists-only preview, please sign up here.

Your personal information, music, images, related content or other information will not be transferred to CNET Networks, Inc. or any other third party.

MP3.com's content administration tools will remain available until the site is redirected on December 2, 2003. Please note, however, that promptly following the removal of the MP3.com website, all content will be deleted from our servers and all previously submitted tapes, CD-ROMs and other media in our possession will be destroyed. We recommend that you make alternative content hosting arrangements as soon as practicable.

Please remember to update or remove all links and references to the URL www.mp3.com. Additionally if you would like a historical record of your page, we recommend that you capture screen shots of the page as well as your artist statistics pages since they will no longer be available once the site goes offline.

MP3.com stopped collecting monthly fees for Gold and Platinum Artist Service subscriptions as of November 3, 2003. For any monthly Gold or Platinum Artist Service subscription fees MP3.com received during the period beginning October 13, 2003 and ending November 2, 2003, MP3.com will be issuing a refund that will be prorated to reflect a termination of the subscription as of November 2, 2003. For any previously paid annual Gold and Platinum subscription fees MP3.com has received during 2003, MP3.com will be issuing a refund that will be prorated to reflect a termination of the subscription as of November 2, 2003. Any artists who subscribed to the Platinum or Gold Artist Service after November 2, 2003 will receive a full refund of any fees paid.

If you subscribe to any other MP3.com services, you will receive separate email messages with specific information about refunds and service availability.

Participants in the truSONIC Business Music Service program will be receiving an email update about the process for their continued participation in that program.

All content uploads will cease immediately. Approvals of previously uploaded content will continue through Friday, November 14, 2003.

CDs will be available for purchase through Monday, November 17, 2003 at 12:00 PM PST.

MP3.com will perform a final artist accounting and check distribution on or around December 1, 2003. Any artist account with a balance of at least $25.00 will qualify to receive a payment in the final artist accounting (reduced from the usual requirement of $50.00). Payment of CD royalties will be included in the final artist accounting. If you anticipate a payment, please verify and update your artist account and contact information no later than November 20, 2003. Click here for help updating your contact information.

Please be sure to check the Sophie message board and System Service Report (SSR) for further updates.

On behalf of all of us at MP3.com we thank you for your patronage and continued support. It has been a privilege to host one of the largest and most diverse collections of music in the world. MP3.com wishes to express its sincere thanks to each of you for making our website an important part of your musical journey. We wish you continued success.

    Sincerely,
    MP3.com

Not too sure what this means to trance[]control @ this point, but we'd better figure something out fast! We'll need a new MP3 hosting site that's good and potential - or we'll be unable to keep the music free...

I, along with many others probably need some help investigating verious sites for this and I'd be happy for any help I can get.

    Best,

    Alex

WTP? Wow, I really don't know what to think right now? That's a huge blow on trance[]control's part (as well as all the other artists). They won't be selling your mp3.com CD's anymore, will they? Wow. :( And you were THIS close to getting 10.000.000 downloads. <_<

    -Dj Bluey
  4. Alle14 Nov 2003, 06:03
Well, as for the 10 000 000 downloads, that would've been a pretty neat press release, however I'm more concernd about how trance[]control is totally connected to MP3.com and vice versa - what'll happend when that connection break? Probably, hopefully nothing - but our name will start to fade and we'll have to rebuild our presence elsewhere - that's for sure...

I'm already talking to CD Duplication companies so don't worry bout the CD's - we'll have them out one way or another :)

    Gotta go figure something out...

    Best,

    Alex

Hey guys, I've posted here before and I came looking for downloads, so please don't think I've just come here to spam. Since you are investigating new options I just wanted to point this out to you. It's a quote:

    ------

well mp3.com - thank you for existing - there were some good times... a long time ago

I'd just like to say that ALL electronic artists are welcome over at http://www.ElectronicScene.com
It's an artist run site, we just had our best month with 110,000 mp3s served and this year we will have had over 500,000 unique visitors.

I offer 4 types of membership, each package has more track hosting, data storage, and additional features.

The first package, the FreeWare, it just for people to check things out - this account doesn't have any track hosting, but our first level is only $5/month.

check out the site, or stop over at our bboard to ask questions, meet some of the regulars at ES, etc. http://www.ElectronicBBoard.com

    hasta,
    Gideon Marken
    ElectronicScene Admin/Owner

Hope you find what you're looking for.

    First off, this licks balls...

But Alex believe me, now it's time to haunt down a record label and make some real magic happend!

Back in the days you could get rich in free music, when you got paid for you downloads, but that's just not possible anymore...
To struggle with a regular job + giving out music without getting a single cent for it it's just unhuman.
To be able to deliver quality music that's made not just "because it has to", you have to be able to focus 100% on it and nothing else. (dunno if it's so with everyone, but it's like that for many of us)

Anyways, again, I'm sorry to hear this... it's not just the downloads that will go missed, it's the whole t[]c promotion thing... mp3.com was always the heart of t[]c...
But every beginning has an end... sadly...

Since I'm also an artist on mp3.com, I got that same email, and I've been searching around for a bit trying to find places where that same type of program resides (scratch the free artist capabilities). The best one that I've found so far is called Ampcast. I'm not sure if anyone has really heard about it, but I know of many artists who already had moved to ampcast.com, previous to this announcement. It seems that it's an "mp3.com" look-a-like, and is actually fairly successful. I'm looking into moving on over to ampcast, and I know a few other artists who are as well. I just thought I'd give you an idea of where to look, so that I, and all of the other die-hard t[]c fans can keep on bobbin' our heads to the beat!

If that doesnt work out, you guys could always just post your online releases on your own website, It would make use of a lot of features, and I'm assuming it would be a lot cheaper than keeping a website AND an online artist "residence."

    The best of luck,
    B)
    Andy

p.s. - excellent job with your remakes of LOBOTOMIZED UNICORN and the new Small Drops of Acid. It sounds like WennE was having a lot of fun with 'Bass Line' :D

    I... but...

    :cwy:

    They're KILLING mp3.com??

I also think that posting the tracks on this site would be a good temporary solution. If I can think of anything, I will definitely let you know, Alle. I just got an email from mp3.com, and right now all I can say is sorry; but trance[]control will get through this.

What will happen to mp3.com after the transfer isn't really clear to me. Hopefully someone will point that out, but anyway:

mp3.com is definitly going down the tube. It was too late to save it when they first instated that 3-song rule, maybe before then. The bad news is, there are no other sites as good as mp3.com.

    Some others:
    beatmaka.com
    musicv2.com [pay only]
    soundclick.com
    vitaminic.com
    ampcast.com
    1sound.com
  13. Heaven's ReBirth15 Nov 2003, 05:44
    Agreed.

There really aren't any other sites that provide what mp3.com provided. Even the 3 song limit for free artists...you must admit thats quite a step for any company or business. Imagine have thousands of "free" artists each having easily more than 3 songs to upload. That is A LOT of music. To this day, I have yet to find any single website that offers any sort of program that Mp3.com did offer.

Like what everyone else is saying, it's difficult to derive any solid information from the email that mp3.com sent out, other than the fact that they are no more. Instances could be a "CNET" replacement of some sort (which obviously will not have free artist sign up), the elimination of the idea entirely, or some sort of absurd idea that we can expect from a power-hungry organization such as CNET.

I don't know where the alternative lies in the vast "world wide web," but I do know I'm sure going to miss Mp3.com a hell of a lot. Thousands and thousands of artists will now...shall we say...be without a home, hehe.

If there's anyone out there who can help trance[]control, as well as the other artists who're in the "trance," step forth, and state your case. We sure need all the ideas we can get!!

    Once again, good luck,

    Andy
  14. Heaven's ReBirth15 Nov 2003, 05:50
Oh, something I forgot to mention in that reply...

I did actually find a website that offers up to 15 mg of storage for free artists. Any of you who're interested, check it out, it's actually not that bad!

Credentials....mmm....not so sure they have them, but of course, that can be discovered through time. I think temporarily, trance[]control should really focus on temporarily releasing on their homepage, while the rest of us download all of their songs before they're all ERASED from the SOURCE.

Well from what i gathered from that email, and the way MP3's are heading. My guess is that CNET will be making an itunes rip off, or something like tahat pay and download mp3's. But thats just a guess.

    David
  17. ephex15 Nov 2003, 17:20
Now that would be a major rip off!

They charge the artists to have their songs put on the site, and they charge the users to download off the site...
  18. CookyMonzta15 Nov 2003, 18:28
I was wondering why the play count stopped at 9,753,039 on Wednesday.

Do you have any plans of moving your music to another MP3 site? Have you checked out Ampcast.com or dmusic.com?

It would be cool if artists could upload their songs for free and users could download it for a small fee and let's say 50% would go to Mp3.com/CNET and 50% to the artists. Kinda like i-tunes for unknown artists.

Well if you're a part of CD Baby your music goes into the iTunes Music Store anyway ;-)

Spent last night downloading all our tracks (54) & took screen dumps as well as saved the webpages off our mp3.com page...

I've been considering ampcast.com though before I decide where to put our music I'll need more options. Started puting music on beatmaka.com in a small scale - not sure where that'd lead to though.

Had a look @ the programs CD Baby offers as well - very interesting in many ways.. I currently have a 10Mbit line @ home, so I'm thinking of actually hosting the songs myself, unless a very good service comes along.

Still a bit confused and unsertain of how to turn this around... Just thought I'd let ya'll know what I'm currently thinking.

The paid program through SoundClick is starting to look better and better even though its nowhere near as customizable in looks as mp3.com...

Too bad I can't get their stupid activation emails!!! <_<
  24. Alle16 Nov 2003, 00:55
10Mbit lan connection : 320 SEK/Month would be about the same as $40 per month...

As for soundclick - site doesn't look to good but they seem to have added a BAGLOAD of new artists in October...
  25. David McGowan16 Nov 2003, 01:04
Well i think my last post got mistook. I highly doubt the new MP3.com owned by CNET will have artist pages and what not. Im thinking it will be a comercial only site to buy music online. Since they are basically telling all MP3.com artists, they are going to destroy all the mp3.com artists data. But who knows. Im just thinking they saw the success of iTunes, and want to be a competitor.

    I pay $40 for 2.5mbit Cable with a static IP ;)
  28. Alle16 Nov 2003, 01:17
David: I'd say you're spot on there...
ephex: Well they'll offer a 100Mbit alternative sometime next year - can get it as a company now, though the price tag is around $400 a month... Hopefully the consumer alternative will be cheaper... Either way I'm having strong considerations towards hosting our songs on my own computer...

    I'm actually hearing mixed reports.

Look at this quote from a post on it from an article on Slashdot (http://slashdot.org/articles/03/11/14/1253...tid=141&tid=188)

I've a friend who is (was?) one of the few remaining employees at MP3.com and he told me that the CNet move was looking pretty damn good. Apparently the CNet guys have a really good attitude toward Internet distribution of music, and a lot of stuff is probably in the works. Supposedly they have a surprise or two up their sleeve that will put a little twist on the whole iTunes music store content. He also said that you would be amazed at the number of people with money in their accounts that mp3.com has no contact info for! Pretty interesting stuff...

hmm this sucks... i'm having mixed feelings on the new cnet mp3 site... if it's anything like Gamespot, it might suck. Gamespot is huge for games, they offer free screen shots of games, some free articles, but you gotta pay for a membership to get anything worthwhile, like video trailers, demos, cheats, etc.

Who knows, maybe it'll be cheap for artists to sign up, and probably have the whole free deal with limited features, but people will have to pay to be a member to download music??? If they do that and have people pay to download music, we better get a share of it. We all know cnet are money hogs, so let's just hope for the best here. According to what i've been reading, it seems like they will have most of the features of MP3.com plus new stuff, so it's just a matter of finding out who pays money for what.

I just finished a new song too and was going to upload it. Well, if anyone wants to hear it, email me at ▓ e-mail address hidden

I'm sad to say that things on the Internet are going to continue to get more and more geared towards costing more and more for hosting. It's also going to start getting bad for users. More and more sites will start charging users a fee for using their site and accessing information. The days of the free web are numbered.
    :(

I hope that you find a place to land soon, alle. Good hunting.
    :music:

"The company did not announce a timeframe for its planned relaunch of MP3.com but said it is interested in connecting with artists and record companies that have previously distributed their music via the site."

Sounds lie some of you are correct. Maybe they want to have all the old artists back but on a paying basis. I guess if the membership was low enough a year and I could then download all the music I wanted I might be interested...

I'd do the same thing, provided that the connection, high-end broadband, like T3 or OC3 could be found, but that's a ton of money... Let's just hope that the MP3 deal with CNet goes smoothly and there are no problems.

It isn't that hard, if you know php and database coding well enough. The hardest part about this whole idea of t[]c hosting their own music, and possible allow membership for others, would be the cost. Lucky for you Swedes', bandwidth is cheap ;). Here's a list of things needed:

    - An apt system admin who knows php, mysql, and webdesign. and linux.
    - Midrange server to start with, probably dual Xeon based with at least 2,4 GB of mem
    - Broadband connection, at least 100Mbit to start
    - A router, switch; preferably from Cisco [expensive]
    - Lots of caffinated products, patience
    - Maybe other stuff I forget now but i have to go watch Taken!

If you can't tell I was hired to do some research over the summer on webhosting, hehe. I'll add more on this subject later but as I said, I have to go :P

In theory it would be great to do this, however my thoughts are more geared towards trance.nu or di.fm - and go asking them weather they'd be interested in joining in, starting such a service up...

They're both communities with great credability and both are well established with the traffic needed to successfully start such a service.

    Just my opinion...

Proxim0: Sorry for not releasing the news about the CD situation - I guess I've been selfish enough to wander around trying to figure out what to do next instead of informing everyone, pointing out what's going down.

While all this was happening, I was lying down in Gran Canaria and enjoying the sun.. and now, on monday 23:40, I get to hear that MP3.com is going down ?!?

    F*CK!

I hope CNet will make something really darn good now, cause so far, no one can replace mp3.com
ok, artists may have to pay to have their music on their server for download. That's fair. But it is really sad that users have to pay to download the music! I mean, that puts off like 50%++ people to download our music!!

At least I think we should have an option of charging for our music or not. I mean, the goal for us "not so big" musicians is not to make money, it is to get our music heard!
So therefore, I hope CNet will make an artist service good enough to replace mp3.com

I would love to complain more, but I have to get up at 06:00 as usual for school tomorrow.

However, www.mp3.com.au/tc. You already got a bunch there, so why not upload more songs there?

I know this service may be a bit slow if you dont live in Australia, but it's free and it's working, and there appears not to be any song limit?
I actually think mp3.com.au is one of the best audio hosting services around for the moment.

    Hey Alex,

Are you sure your connection is 10Mbit/s in both direction ?
You pay usually for download. Upload is limited to much lower speed. Usually 128kbit/s to 1.5mbit/sec. ISP's don't like the idea of their customers creating a private server, this is why the restriction with the uploading speed. Do a check on this. But if your upload is 10Mbit/s, then I am absolute amazed and your ISP rulez :)

    Keep up the good work...

I REALLY like the idea of moving to www.mp3.com.nu!!!

I just checked it out and it's definately moving up the ranks on my list of places to "park."

Upload/Download speed sucks? So what. They've given an update that apparently is talking about increasing the connection/upload/download speed. Whether they'll follow through is something I don't know, but I think it's a great place to fall back onto right now.

It's really a tie with BeatMaka and Ampcast at the moment for the #1 slot on my charts. Both have got credentials that I'm willing to accept.

Trance.nu and Digitally Imported are two sources where I believe Trance[]Control would thrive. Those are two of the greatest trance sites I know of to this date, especially Digitally Imported. They've got an AWESOME selection of trance and a radio that I've found unrivaled to any other. They seem like the service to go to if you really want to make it big.

    *Chuckle*

I personally don't think I'm there yet, so I'll keep that in my back pocket for the future. T[]C, I think no matter where you go, all of your fans will be following you, so I'm sure the site(s) in which you choose will thrive over time.

I'm sure that many mp3.com artists are in the same situation as you are...

But a thing like this would be very complex and take's a lot of money?!

Well I know funender.com started up his own mp3 site. It can't be THAT complex.

That's the reason I'm promoting ElectronicScene... because the owner (Sonic Wallpaper) used to be on mp3.com but didn't like the way they were treating the artists, so he started his own site.

It's a very nice site run by artists (mostly ex-mp3.com artists) and they need more members.

The site is obviously going to grow. He's figuring out now how to set up a second server and will eventually branch into a mutiple server setup.

I had been wondering about trance.nu... don't they already host tracks? If not, then why not? Too much hastle?
  65. nitro2k0121 Nov 2003, 15:15
Trance.nu are having server problems... Their servers are slow and their connections are slow. I even caught up a thread in their forum that they couldn't have a chat because it would slow down the system...
Now they have an IRC chat, but even so it's not on their server.
Music hosting services require a LOT of bandwidth, I mean to make it all work smooth you need have like a 1 Gig line. :excl:

Secondly, I don't care how nice the connections CNet has are. I personally wouldnt want to be some rich label's bitch. Thats my opinion, however... I liked MP3.com cause it gave any artist the chance to put out tunes and essentially sell themselves. Good people sell good tunes at good prices that go towards the artist. Ill stop now before people start yelling at me :P

Just got this in the mail:

    MP3.com Artist Announcement

A message from CNET Networks, Inc. (CNET)

    Dear MP3.com artists:

Last week CNET Networks, Inc. (CNET) announced that it purchased certain assets of MP3.com, Inc. As MP3.com previously notified you, MP3.com will not transfer your personal information, music, images, related content, and other information to CNET, and accordingly the MP3.com web site will no longer be available in its current form after December 2, 2003 at 12:00 PM PDT.

In response to the overwhelming feedback CNET received from the MP3.com artist community following this news, CNET's Download.com is answering your call to build a free music upload/download destination for independent artists. Launching in early 2004, this new site will give independent musicians free hosting for their songs and related material, as well as valuable exposure to Download.com's tens of millions of unique monthly visitors. Download.com plans to do for musicians what it did for software developers when it launched nearly 10 years ago: give independent artists an affordable way to build a market for their work.

We'd like to let you know when our new site will be available for you to begin uploading your songs and building your fan base. Please visit http://music.download.com and sign up to receive e-mail updates about this new service. In the meantime, we recommend that you make backup copies of your songs and other content before the MP3.com web site goes offline on December 2, 2003. Once we've launched our new service, we'd love to have the opportunity to host your music and welcome you to the Download.com community.

    Sincerely,
    CNET Networks, Inc. (CNET)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks like we're gonna have a similar or hopefully better place afterall :)

Nope. Though the names sound pretty much the same, they're completely different sites.

I wouldn't trust CNET too much. My idea is that we all download as many songs as we can from mp3.com/tc and share them on your favourite P2P network (mine is Win MX. It may be wrong to do like that, but since the TC music is supposed to be free, everybody can add their part to the hosting, and everybody's a winner...

I also think that it's a big shame for what is happening to mp3.com. It was great, but this year it all went bad!
Firstly three songs limit, then no more free messageboards.
When they stoped free messageboard I already sensed (as many others) that mp3.com is going down so I went to the best possible alternative I knew about and I still think about it that way! It is www.soundclick.com! I don't know why any of you doesn't really recommend this, but I have the feeling that soundclick is the one that will replace mp3.com with it's service and popularity. The have everything: no limits to song posts, artist messageboards, community messageboards, artists mailing list, news window...
The only disadvantage is that it is not possible to visualy edit the appereance of your artist page, but you can put your own flash at bands main page.
I think it's great! The also have payed services: e-commerce for cd-selling, VIP account with which you can edit everything and you got discount at other payed services and there is also banner promotion throughout the soundclick network with 1000 shows per $1. So I think there is an adequate alternative.
However there are others like www.besonic.com (not very satisfied, but still trying) and there is one small site that has ambitional poject coming up: www.funender.com/music! They claim to develop indenpendant music site better than soundclick and mp3.com combined. I may give them a try!

So people, forget mp3.com, forget the past, look out to the future and do something about it (more than mourning over mp3.com) Maybe mp3.com's death is the begining of a new era for indenpendant music online because it is giving a chance for soundclick and others to show of their potential maximaly! They'l have more traffic now since many of mp3.com artists are already moving to soundclick!

For trance control I recommend soundclick. As you payed mp3.com you can pay soundclicl for even better service! Give them a try! And hurry, the 2nd December is near!

So everyone has to register them again at the new mp3.com or not?
  88. Jeff P27 Nov 2003, 22:21
I think the first thing you guys should do is sign up for Angelfire or something so you can post all of your MP3s there, and link to them from trancecontrol.com. That will provide you with a short-term solution until you find another MP3 site.
  89. Heaven's ReBirth28 Nov 2003, 02:33
Well, Angelfire wouldn't provide much space to store mp3's, unless of course you purchase more. I think that spending more money isn't really what trance[]control wants to do right now. Keeping it on their own website will only take advantage of the space and bandwidth they already have (which is a lot). But, your idea is certainly an alternative that I think many other artists from mp3.com would consider!

The Australian "mp3.com," http://www.mp3.com.au, is a site that I've actually moved to temporarily, as well as many of the other sites that members have posted here in this forum. They all have their ups, and they all have their downs, but I think until we truly know what's going to happen with music.download.com, we can consider them our only intelligent alternatives.

    Best to all,

    B) Andy

I'm new to your message board community. However, I have been a fellow MP3.com artist since 1999 and followed your success for quite a while now. Although I am not an electronic artist, I enjoy the beats and the music. I agree with some of the other posts here that you guys should consider shopping for some sort of label distribution and touring support deal. I've seen groups with far less online success get major deals because they demonstrated an audience and following for their music. 10 000 000 downloads says something about the size of your following and audience for your music.

Try here for an idea: http://www.mixonic.com/

I found this link posted on another BB. This is what they have to say about their services. I personally probably won't use it for my own music because I go the manufactured CD route mainly and was never into the MP3.com CDs. Howver, many artists like you all used them to great success for yourselves and your fans. Following is their info sheet to Artists who use their free online CD creation services, hope it adds to your ideas. Best wishes for continued success! I wish that I only was a fraction as successful with my music at MP3.com. Peace, Cb

I've been scoping tons of site trying to figure out where to go - however trancecontrol.com will only host about 100 Mb - can't host all our work there - my own server will surely fit all our work, though I still need a reliable server for 24/7 access - right now I'm using an old PII 400Mhz PC that crash every 2'nd day or so...

I assure you all - I'm all over this and trying my best to find the best solution, both for trance[]control and for you guys - the last thing I want is to end up on yet another site that might face the same destiny. Main rule is if the big ones break the rest will fall.

I have a file server that is 260mhz and is 294mb of ram and i use win2k for it... and it only needs to be reset like every 3weeks or so, and dosn't crash much about 2%.... and it has a hevy load on it.. i run all my programs from it and also is ware all my mp3s are keep and files... Just play around with it as much as you can really. and always have the updated need for it. ummmm hope that helps some... if you need any help let me know.

Lingk: Problem 2 would in this case be that the computer I'm refering to is the one I use for webdesign, e-mail and other every day things... Can't get a new one until after Newyears so I can have a reliable server up n' running by mid January @ best.

Apologies if this has already been suggested, I'm new to the site and haven't read all 7 pages of posts on this topic, but has any thought been given to using Bit Torrent as a means of distribution?

I know it get's abused as a filesharing tool, but the initial idea behind it was as a distribution tool by using users generally unused upload capacity.

Might be worth a look anyway
  105. t[]c lover10 Dec 2003, 01:39
thats hard because filesharing programs have a weakness; slow downloads and how much you bet we wont find new songs?
  106. ephex10 Dec 2003, 05:18
tc[]lover: you have no clue how bit torrent works. Trancefuzion did a nice post explaining all the p2p apps in off topic, you should check it out.

That's actually a very good idea mustella, I know ets-global.org is now using bit torrent to provide free downloads of ASOT. I love to see when bit torrent is used for what it was meant...
  107. t[]c lover12 Dec 2003, 01:13
very true, I have not the slightest idea on how to use bit torrent. the sad thing is, i downloaded it a few days ago.

I just put in a request to upgrade the trancecontrol.com serverspace to 500Mb - that'll be a good start to start hosting our own songs in a reliable way.

    Stay tuned...

Hey, I've been away for a little while, busy with school and stuff.
Glad to hear things are starting to look a little better. I think BitTorrent is a good short-term solution too.

yep, as long as its short-term
  111. Alle14 Dec 2003, 23:24
Well, I'm sort of thinking long-term as I don't enjoy putting massive efforts into a temporary solution... If I'm to do something I'd better do it properly and well thought through from the start...

Didn't get as much time for webwork this weekend as I hoped for, however I hope to have the new website and new interface up in a near future.

    Best,

    Alex

The new music.download.com should be up fairly soon... you guys wouldn't suffer THAT much...
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new music.download.com. It'll be much better than the JUNK-O-LA that mp3.com had to offer at the end of their downward spiral. I'm not too worried. :)

    music.download.com?!!! cnet...they shut down mp3.com to give music.download.com a safe launch i bet.
  114. Heaven's ReBirth17 Dec 2003, 20:00
Didn't you already hear about music.download.com? They've posted it several times already on this topic...

Or maybe you mean something else?

    I just got this e-mail from music.download.com ::: :woot:

    Greetings once again,

We have good news! We've just launched the Download.com Music artist beta, and you are invited to come upload your music now. We've been working around the clock in an effort to help you get your music back online, and now it's time to take the first step. Submit your music now:

    http://music.download.com/

You will be able to upload your MP3s, a photo, a bio, and other salient details. Note that this is a beta launch, which means that we need your help to smooth out all the glitches and help us find bugs that might come up. The Download.com Music site will launch to the public in the next few weeks.

If you choose not to sign up for this free service, this is the last you'll hear from us.

We're excited about the beta launch, and hope you are too. We'd like to once again thank each of you for your patience. Get started uploading your music right now!

I dont think people wanna get hurt again but this is still great!
  117. teknodave20 Apr 2004, 18:39
I do not think they will risk letting people get hurt. Just look at what happened when we cried foul when they took mp3.com down, and said that people are gonna have to pay with their new music.download.com site.

But should they do an about face (I have seen businesses do it), IMO they will end up shooting themselves in the foot, hurting them badly.

Trust me, I got shot in the foot with an air-compressed pellet rifle. It is not a pleasent feeling.
  118. t[]c lover21 Apr 2004, 18:27
wow, I bet it did. I wish I could get some music now though
  119. teknodave25 Apr 2004, 19:36

  123. ephex8 May 2004, 03:25
