    MISSION 2002 Release #21: UNICORN R.I.P + [Extended]

    STYLE: Retro Trance
    DURATION: 6:12 (Extended 10:25)
    PRODUCED BY: DjC
    STATUS: ONLINE - http://www.mp3.com/tc (6:12 Version ONLINE @ MP3.com)

I'm happy to present to you the extended version of the 21'st release in the M2002 series! This is a VERY long track that house most of the elements you might want to look for in a trance[]control track, and a bit more... The regular version is 6:12 and is just about the same as the extended version yet with a bit diffrent ending.
    Make your pick and Enjoy!

    Best,

    Alex

    Alle,

I'm listening to it again as I TRY to type this in. Man, it's hard to keep the fingers on the keys and not have them dancing around. Can't wait to hear the finished work. Outsanding sounds. Far Out!

    WOW
Sounds better than the original if you ask me. Sweet bass line man. I like the drums. Sounds great man! :music:
  6. DJ Bluey10 Nov 2003, 05:49
I like it. Haha, I heard the drums from Imported Nightmare smuggled into it near the beginning. :P Cool stuff. So is M2002 #21 going to be a remix of sorts of Lobotomized Unicorn?

And please forgive me, but I thought I had a grasp on what 303 was. But after hearing this demo, I didn't hear what I thought was 303. So, could someone help me out here?

    -Dj Bluey
  7. Trancefuzion10 Nov 2003, 06:45
WOW. I like this MUCH MUCH better than the original.

Hehe this is funny its the first time I've known you to release a preview to the public. Anyway its awesome I can't wait to hear the rest!
  8. Digital Beat10 Nov 2003, 07:18
great phat sounds, I would like to hear more 303 though ;)
  9. Alle10 Nov 2003, 11:53
Glad to hear you guys seem to enjoy the new work so far... M2002 #21 is actually not a remix of LOBOTOMIZED UNICORN, it's a continuation of the theme. The whole work project is just called UNICORN and I aim to make several versions with diffrent feel to them that symbolise events in the life of the UNICORN, hence the names.

    - LOBOTOMIZED (Brainstorm)
    - R.I.P (Farewell song/march)

Finally, I aim to get this baby project on a 12" EP :) But that's after I made 3 or even 4 various versions of the theme.

    Best,

    Alex

PS. There will be more TB-303, I promise :) So far the bassline and some fill FX are made with the 303 and there'll be a nice acid line to go with this track later on right before it peaks.... DS.
  10. MrGoodbytes10 Nov 2003, 18:22
Wow... I... want more. That's great so far, can't wait to hear the finished product!

  11. ephex10 Nov 2003, 22:31
I like it so far! Good job, I'm looking forward to hearing the finished product ;)

But why would you assimilate a lobotomy with brain activity?? :P
I'm sure it does quite the opposite
  12. Alle11 Nov 2003, 03:45
Just got back from the studio - been there for 12 or so hours... Track is finnished, though it's a bit long... 10:25, think I might shorten it a bit and then put this baby online...

As for the 10:25 version - this will be the extended mix of UNICORN R.I.P - I'm gonna upload this track to MP3.com and as I'm in a good mood today I'll also put it out for you guys to download and share your views

ephex: Good point, so let's just say the Lobotomized version is what you get when you're bitten by the brain bugs...

    Best,

    Alex
  13. Trancefuzion11 Nov 2003, 04:49
This gets 10/10 from me. Simply incredible! I like this soooooooo much more than the original. You need to make all your tracks like this! The sound is just one of a kind!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! :woot:

Wicked brass sounds and the 303s are tight too! I just love how the emotions get into this one more than the original. This MUST MUST MUST go on vinyl!!!

    INSANE!!!
  14. Gunner11 Nov 2003, 04:54
I love the new song. Keep the music coming :)
  15. Alle11 Nov 2003, 05:02
TF: Glad to read you enjoy the track the way you do, though wouldn't it be boring if all tracks had the same elements in them!? Or are you refering to efforts put into creating the track?

The regular version of UNICORN R.I.P will probably be here tomorrow...

    Best,

    Alex
  16. Digital Beat11 Nov 2003, 06:38
Excellent track :) But I expected more insane 303 synthline around 5:30 ;)
Very well mixed, but a little bit too long track.

Well yes alright it would be boring if they were all the same. I'm not saying they should be. But somehow this version seems crisper, fresher, and more emotional. I like it a lot better than the original. I think its the general sound you should aim for in the future. But that's just my opinion. ;)

As for the length. I liked it and I think it would be good for mixing, but I wouldn't suggest making tracks this long as a regular habit.
  18. AlexW11 Nov 2003, 10:55
    Wazaaaaaaaaaa!

Nice track indeed - Get's me to think about knights and shit :D

I gotta say that the 303 sound is VERY similar to the real 303 sound, wich I think your sponsors will be glad to hear that ;)

It's moments like these you should offer a midi file and let us all make an Unicorn  - Hehe I never get tierd...

    Keep them comming! :)

The insaine sound that start to build up 05:40 in the song is a 303-line...

    Cheers

I suppose I can offer a remix-pack once I got around to finnish the regular R.I.P version....

That's the spirit! - I'll keep my eyes open... *ninja!!!*

    Now off to work :cwy:
  22. ephex11 Nov 2003, 20:39
A remix pack would be awesome! I was gonna ask to do a remix of the original Lobotomized Unicorn but never got around to it, so you can definitly sign me up.

I'm downloading the track right now, can't wait... [I'm still on modem, bah... they even turned on DSL yesterday but the dsl modem and shit hasn't got here yet... it's torture :P]
  23. DJ Bluey11 Nov 2003, 20:49
I think the song is good. I mean, before I say anything, it's better than I could ever do, so I'm basically critiquing based on the standards of other t[]c songs.

Since you said that the regular version will stop after 5:40, I think I'll like that version better. I thought of the acid-line as kind of distracting. Like, it didn't have anything to do with the rest of the song and it's "mood." It's still an awesome acid-line, just...irrelevant? And not that viciousness is the only point of an acid-line, but I don't think you can get much more vicious than that of Imported Nightmare. :D (Thanks AlexW for the reply. The acid-line is what I thought people were referring to when they said "303").

I do love the peaceful sound of the song though! I think you pulled off the "R.I.P." mood, especially compared to the previous version. And where the bass finally changes for the melody around 3:00, I enjoyed the t[]c "slowed drum" thing, where the tempo is less-filled and it makes the song sound slower (it was in Gothenburg Sound and Bolivia too). The peacefulness of the main melody is awesome!

One more thing, when I was listening to the song build up near the beginning, I suddenly thought "I miss the main lead rhythm in the style of Love and Desire, Deep Vibrations, etc." I was hoping you would somehow incorporate a different rhythm using the same Unicorn melody. Maybe for your next variation? :P

So yeah, still 4 stars. Good song. :)

    Just finished downloading/listening...

This is nice! The 303 sounds really good, and you do manage to keep that marching feeling. I like this a lot, spectacular ;)

5 Stars, the only problem I have is the crappy encoding.
  25. aqvayak11 Nov 2003, 21:34
When i heard this track, I was impressed with how much you have grown as an artist and been influenced by other releases made over the last year. This track immediately reminded me of 2 Players - Signet (GM Project Remix) along with a whole new bunch of tracks using the same synth that have been monster hits.

While the trance is good, the drum beats during the anti-climaxes/slow moments before the build up reveal that i dont think you really knew what you wanted to do. The drum/treble sounds are faded and indistinct. Making them louder, sharper and clearer would make the track sound more polished and powerful. I like your beat, but i dont think the treble beat along with your bass is a good idea... a more powerful bass beat would be more simplified and would sound way better.

This is a great track and im keeping it in my mp3 playlist

the criticism sounds harsh,l but in reality you did a great job.

An advice: CRC and Stereo on 128/160 kbps are bad things  ^_^

Just got back from the studio with the original version made - won't place it here as it's going directly to MP3.com...

Thanks a lot for all the opinions! WennE finnished a track today as well that also will be heading to MP3.com - it's a hardtrance/acid track that I think the more hardedged listeners will enjoy for sure.

I loved Lobotomized Unicorn and I really love this version. It's really mellow in the beginning, but then it gets into the 303, which I LOVE.
Can't wait to hear WennE's track too. Keep up the great work!

I love it...sounds way more commercial (professional) than the first one...but I miss the delayed lead that plays at the beggining of Lobo...when it goes too too too...too too.....TAU TAU TAU tau. :P
  33. lazyboyzob1212 Nov 2003, 19:20
HOLY SHIT! Sorry but this is an AWESOME song. Tears are streaming! :cwy:
 You guys keep getting better and BETTER! Thanks Alex and Andreas! Now I will listen to this full blast in my car for about...3 months.
  34. damn117 Nov 2003, 18:53
Man! My Winamp is almost being crazy with so much loops on this track! Loved the song! It remembers me somewhat of the old style of trance[]control, "Deep Vibrations" and "Atomic Dance Explosion" stuff... GOOD WORK GUYS! :D
  35. Alle18 Nov 2003, 00:12
Damn1: Sorry to disapoint you but the track only hold one single loop, appart from the two variation loops (slow ones) running in the break. The rest is regular drum programming...

    Best,

    Alex

I was noticing that too ... which I think mixing a bit of the old with the new made this track even better!! :music:

Still waiting for the Rmx Pack ^_^
  41. Alle25 Nov 2003, 08:21
Sorry bout that - haven't been to the studio for a while and I also took the studio computer home for three days to re-install the OS and all VST effects/synths...

Got a pretty full week of work ahead but will be back in the studio on Monday next week.

    Best,
