If I were to be aired on one of my local radio stations, what would the process be? I sent C89.5 a demo CD of three tracks along with a letter, but I'm not sure what all happens with the radio. Would I get paid if they were to air me? Would I need to sign anything? You know, that stuff.

Quite honestly I don't know. I've been aired a few times on a radio show at a university in Canada. And another small show at another place in Canada too. lol

It was cool, but all I got was exposure. I'm just happy to have it. Thats all the payment I need.

I am curious about mainstream radio tho. Anyone know?

Try emailing your desired radio station first. See if they allow independent artists to promote their work on their station. That is what I had to do. As for money, like TranceFuzion said, it mostly is just a great way to get some exposure. Hope this helps.

By the way, I had a similar problem myself with this.

I believe , unless a prior arangment is made with the readio station the only way you will get any kind of royalties, is if the track is signed to a label. Then the label gets paid for each time its aired, then you are cut your little slice. But i have to agree, with Trancefuzion and Daed, just the exposure , of being played on the radio is worth its weight in gold.

Right - exposure just rocks, I don't really care about a little $ (even though it would be useful :)), if I'm aired, I'm psyched! I like being psyched about stuff. It would be soooooo cool to be aired. And if I was repetitively aired, woohoo!! I don't really care about money, although it is nice ...

There is always the option if you think your tracks are good enough like near pro quality trance, you can submit them the subtraxx experience , and if georgio like the tracks he will play it in his live dj set broadcast on di.fm, theres usually a good three thousand people streaming the broadcast during the subtraxx experience. But he is picky about what tracks he will play and how good the quality is. Wouldnt hurt to try.

No kidding. He's VERY picky. I posted my tracks once. He tore them to shreds. But he's a great help too. He lets you know what he doesnt like and makes suggestions on what could be changed. So you've got a pro giving you feedback and thats always a great thing even if you don't get on DI. :D

I couldnt agree more, its nice getting good feedback back. Forces you to get better, and i havent yet produced an A-list track , but damnit im going to die trying.

Same here. I'm also going to try to produce a few top-notch quality tracks and send in a demo to a few smaller labels I know of. Who knows, maybe I'll get in... then again... maybe not... but what have I got to lose???

As you would think you get payed to have your songs played on the radio. It sometimes does not work that way. A station with alot of listeners alot of the time IS PAID to play songs by the record label. Not the other way around. I work for a telecommunications company and Zomba or Jive records and Sony records and Epic records used to have conference calls everyday discussing radio play for the artists they promoted. Jlo, pcrappy, etc yadda yadda. Now alot of the time they discussed how. They paid, lets say Krock radio in New York $5,000 to play Jlo 5,000 times that month. Ever wonder why big radio stations seem to play the same stuff over and over.....They have to because they are contracted by the label to do so and they are paid well to do it. BUT if you want your stuff played I would sugest sending it to a college radio station where the Jockies can play what they want within reason. No royalties there but at least you get played =).

Sorry if this is no help or a big let down =(.

I would rather get more people listening to my music then to get paid for it. Though getting paid for it wouldn't be a bad thing. I am not into music for the money. I do it for fun. Even if I don't have many fans, I do know the ones I do have are people who enjoy my music as much as I enjoy producing it.

I think they could play your track but does not pay you. It's good promotion and also very good for playing some tracks sometime if you got your album coming.

Well if you need exposure for your non-label tracks if you are on soundclick or funender I can put you on my station. Theyre affiliated with my magazine so youre bound to get some exposure.
