I am quite new to the music scene and would like you all to give me a moment of your time to listen to my music at www.mp3.com/dendanna. I previously used a PC with fruityloops3 and now have an Imac G4. Can anyone tell me what is the best music software around in the UK similar to fruityloops I could purchase for my mac as I miss making music........ :wassat:

Hey another girl on the board! Welcome :D !

Life: This one is pretty nice, really relaxing. Maybe you could've ad another melody line in it because after a while it gets a tiny bit repetetive.

High: The idea is pretty cool! Nice melodies. I like that female voice wich comes in now and then is that you? Oh yeah one thing tho you can hear some background-noise at the vocal sounds. You could've used some more percussion.

Pretty cool tracks, keep it up.

As for software for the mac. I don't know if there's reason for the mac (http://www.propellerheads.se) but if so than you should check that one out, it's a bit similar to fruity loops.

    Hey! Welcome!

Alrighty well here's what I think of your tunes:

Life: I agree with Tim on this one. It could use another melody line. But other than that I really like it. Really nice. I can hear a Vangelis influence in it. Kinda spacey sounding. One thing I have to say and I'm sorry but the voice samples just sound really cheesy. I understand the limited selection of FruityLoops as I used to be a FL user (now moved on to Reason). But great sounding piano in the background. Finally a FL user who doesnt use the standard FL piano! lol

Take Control: Didn't do all that much for me. A bit repetetive. The kick was a bit weak as well as the bass. I do like the percussion though. The vocals are a nice touch though.

High: Nice synth line at the beginning! I like that! Some really nice wind fx in the background. Where did they come from? The vocals are OK. I don't know if they're supposed to be understandable but they only thing I could make out was "high". IMHO the melody could use a bit more development. The structure is alright. Quite honestly the song seemed to get a bit repetetive even as early as halfway through it.

I'm not trying to put you or your music down. Just my honest opinons. Keep producing and I'm sure you'll get better. You're not doing too bad for being new at this.

As for the software I'd HIGHLY recommend Propellerheads Reason (www.propellerheads.se). It is available for Mac and is probably your best option since it is probably best not to dive straight into say Cubase or Logic Audio. So I'd recommend getting the demo of Reason to try out and see what you think. Its a bit different from Fruity and you'll probably get frustrated at first learning it. But in the end its much easier, much more powerful, you can do more with it, and it just sounds better. I'm so glad I switched out of fruity. You can compare my old fruity tracks at www.mp3.com/tranceandremix with my new tracks made in Reason www.mp3.com/trancefuzion

See if you can tell the difference.

    Good luck and keep working!

I liked "High" and "TAKE CONTROL" but I didn't care for "Life". "Life" was pretty but not my cup of tea. I don't know anything about making music I only know what I like. :music:

I would like to thank all you music makers for your honest opinions, this helps greatly and I will definitely check out the music software for my mic. Cheers! :D

    Well produced music. :D

As for the software, I would recommend Cakewalk Software. But lot of people seem to recommend Reason, Even though I don't really like it personaly ;) . Things like Sonar 3 are more profesional. And much more flexible. But it's up to you. If you've just started out producing then go for reason. But if you want something more challenging go for Cakewalk. B)

eh, screw em all... spend $10,000 and get a sweet ProTools set up hehe
protools can be found at: http://www.digidesign.com

If you don't have $10,000 like all of us here, i'd suggest getting your hands on Cubase SX and buying a book on it to learn it. That's what I did recently. Cubase can be found at http://www.steinberg.net

I've tried Emagic Logic, it's pretty similar Cubase, but Cubase has a MUCH more user-friendly interface. I know Emagic is a great program though (hence... trance[]control!!!!) http://www.emagic.de

I spent a lot of time with FruityLoops and I've pretty much conquered every aspect of it, but like everyone on this forum says, the sounds from it aren't that great, and although the latest version has a lot of stuff u can do, there's a lot more with better programs like Cubase. http://www.flstudio.com

    Never tried Cakewalk http://www.cakewalk.com

Only tried Acid music for like half an hour, and i absolutely hated the interface. http://www.sonicfoundry.com

Never tried Reason, but I didn't really like Rebirth. Don't bother with Rebirth, it's pretty out-dated now. A lot of people seem to like Reason. http://www.propellerheads.se

There's also stuff from Magix, but don't bother with their low-end products. Samplitude Professional is good i hear. I don't really know much about it though. http://www.magix.com

Then there's the all-time favorite, MTV Music Generator! I'm kidding, don't buy this or I'll slap you silly!

Well hope that helps a little.

    Trane rules! Enough said!

If you think you gotz da skillz you chould shoot for eMagic Logic! It's killer ... and for Macs. Try Orion too. I've never used it, but I haven't used Logic either. I've heard great stuff come out of both of em though. TC uses Logic!

Hey mp3.com shut down so I'm not able to view any of your tracks. www.ic-musicmedia.com is really good, you should look at them! I'm up there as www.ic-musicmedia.com/synthead

Pro Tools is mostly used for post-production editing and recording rather than producing. You can get a free version of Pro Tools straight from digidesign if you want to try it! However, I use Cool Edit Pro and perfer it much, much more. So a wave editor is an insanely useful tool to have, but it doesn't come close to replacing production software.
