    Dear MP3.com Artist Community:

We hope you are all well this Tuesday. As I'm sure our U.S. artists are aware there have been devastating fires in the San Diego area where MP3.com's corporate headquarters are located. As a result of the fires, the office has been closed to the majority of staff for safety reasons. We are aware of several issues pertaining to the artist community and will get to them as soon as possible, but please expect delays due to the current situation. For more information on known issues and their status please see our System Status Report.

Please bear with us during this trying time and we will continue to update you on the situation.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Sophie.

I don't know if you all have heard about these fires. I'm sure some of you So-Cali guys know it but everyone else may not have.

There are over 5 different fires here in the LA Basin. They've been going since about Friday and have gone completely out of control. They suspect arson is the cause. They have burned over 600,000 acres. That's more than the size of Rhode Island. Destroyed over 1,600 homes and killed at least 17. The fires are getting closer and closer together and may form one huge long fire reaching from Ventura (about 50 miles north of L.A.) all the way down 50 miles into Mexico. That's about 200 miles long! Its affected us all here. The smoke was horrible on Saturday and Sunday I could hardly breathe. Ash continuously coming down. It's been horrible. Schools have been closed in the areas and at the school where I work watching kids we have to stay inside all the time because of the smoke. It's really horrible. Anyway yeah thats the situation and here's some pics of the fires from space. They're all over!!! It seems like most people are surviving OK though. I saw on the news this story of one couple who got trapped by the fire so they went into their swimming pool and survived! Anyway this is absolutely nuts so I can't blame MP3.com for evacuating.

This one shows all the fires and the red X is where I am (I'm not in any immediate danger don't worry. I'm about an hour and a half away from any fire in any direction.)

    Look at that smoke. Daaaaaaang.

And this one shows some of the fires without the funky colors:

bitchin pics man, where'd you get em? see, the billions of $s we send into space instead of spending it on our social issues, IS worth it! conspiracy time...after september 11th the governmet stated that terrorists could possibly start forest fires such as this as another form of attack. personally, i think that all this devistation & loss of life both animal & human, was the result of some dumbass burning pictures & letters from their ex (remember that one?!?!). anyhow, look at it this way, at least the time you are forced to be inside can be spent on making music.
    stay safe,
    mac

p.s. while watching the fires on cnn international one of my friends commented on a guy that watched his house go up in flames "what do you think was going through his head when he saw that?". i told him i knew what would be going through my head..."isn't it f**king ironic that the marshmallows in the cabinets are getting toasted & the hotdogs in the fridge are cooked to perfection right about now?!"

Haha I think this is one of the few times I've seen you post outside any of the tc related forums.

Anyway yeah it really bites. Come on over here and get your groovy raindance on! lol

I'm sure mp3.com must have a backup somewhere if they lost their servers? Then again maybe not. I really don't know.

Edit: And if they do burn I wonder how they'll compensate. I'm sure they have some sort of insurance but they'll have to get themselves up and running again and that will be crazy enough what about all the songs they lost? Would they pay every artist individually? I dunno but I doubt they'll get burnt. I hope not. Just keep your fingers crossed.
